My Friend and former colleague shared following piece via email which is worth reading. Read below:
Among the special seasons of worship are the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah, which Allah has preferred over all the other days of the year. Ibn ‘Abbas (radiAllahu anhu) reported that the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) said:
“There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days.” The people asked, “Not even jihad for the sake of Allah?” He said, “Not even jihad for the sake of Allah except in the case of a man who went out to fight giving himself and his wealth up for the cause, and came back with nothing.”
[Sahih al-Bukhari]
Ibn ‘Abbas (radiAllahu anhu) also reported that the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) said:
“There is no deed more precious in the sight of Allah, nor greater in reward, than a good deed done during the ten days of Sacrifice.” He was asked, “Not even jihad for the sake of Allah?” He said, “Not even jihad for the sake of Allah, except in the case of a man who went out to fight giving himself and his wealth up for the cause, and came back with nothing.”
[Sahih al-Bukhari]
Ibn ‘Abbas (radiAllahu anhu) also reported that the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) said:
“There is no deed more precious in the sight of Allah, nor greater in reward, than a good deed done during the ten days of Sacrifice.” He was asked, “Not even jihaad for the sake of Allah?” He said, “Not even jihad for the sake of Allah, except in the case of a man who went out to fight giving himself and his wealth up for the cause, and came back with nothing.”
[al-Darimi]
These texts and others indicate that these ten days are better than all the other days of the year, with no exceptions, not even the last ten days of Ramadan. But the last ten nights of Ramadan are better, because they include Laylat al-Qadr (the Night of Power), which is better than a thousand months.
We should know that the virtue of these ten days is based on many things:
1- Allah swears an oath by them, and swearing an oath by something is indicative of its importance and great benefits. Allah says: “By the dawn; by the ten nights”
[al-Fajr 89:1-2]
Ibn’Abbas (radiAllahu anhu) and others said this refers to the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah. Ibn Kathir said: “This is the correct opinion.”
2- The Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) testified that these are the best days of this world.
[see above ahadith]
3- The Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) encouraged people to do righteous deeds because of the virtue of this time for people throughout the world, and also because of the virtue of the place - for the Hujjaaj (Pilgrims) to the Sacred House of Allah.
4- The Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) commanded us to recite a lot of Tasbeeh (SubbanAllah), Tahmeed (Alhahu akbar) during this time.
Ibn Umar (radiAllahu anhu) reported that the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) said: “There are no days greater in the sight of Allaah and in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Him than these ten days, so during this time recite a great deal of Tahleel (Lailaha illAllah) Takbeer and Tahmeed.”
[Ahmad]
5- These ten days include the Day of Arafah on which Allah perfected His Religion. Fasting on this day will expiate for the sins of two years. These days also include the Day of Sacrifice (Nahr), the greatest day of Hajj, which combines acts of worship in a way unlike any other day.
6- The one who offers a sacrifice must stop cutting his hair and nails and not remove anything from his skin, from the beginning of the ten days until after he has offered his sacrifice, because the Prophet (saw) said: “When you see the new moon of Dhul-Hijjah, if any one of you wants to offer a sacrifice, then he should stop cutting his hair and nails until he has offered his sacrifice.”
[Muslim]
According to another report he said: ‘He should not remove (literally, touch) anything from his hair or skin.’
This prohibition applies only to the one who is offering the sacrifice, not to his wife and children, unless any of them is offering a sacrifice in his or her own right, because the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) used to sacrifice “one behalf of the family of Muhammad.” There are no reports that say he forbade them to cut their hair or nails at that time.
One must understand that these ten days are a great blessing from Allah to His slave. It is the Muslim’s duty to appreciate this and make the most of the opportunity, by striving hard to increase in worship.
Among His blessings to His slaves, Allah has given us many ways in which to do good and worship Him, so that the Muslim may be constantly active and consistent in the worship of his Lord.
Performing Hajj and Umarh
One of the best deeds that one can do during these ten days is to perform Hajj to the sacred House of Allah. The one whom Allah helps to go on Hajj to His House and to perform all the rituals properly is included in the words of the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam):
“An accepted Hajj brings no less a reward than Paradise”
Doing good deeds as these are beloved by Allah and will bring a great reward from Him. Whoever is not able to go to Hajj should occupy himself at this blessed time by worshipping Allah, paying, reading Qur’an, remembering Allah, making supplication, giving charity, honouring his parents, upholding the ties of kinship, enjoining what is good and forbidding what is evil, and other acts of worship.
We should ensure that we do not miss any of these important occasions. We need to prepare ourselves by doing good deeds which will bring us reward when we are most in need of it, for no matter how much reward we earn, we will find it is less than we need.

2nd E-idul Adha in 2007.
BTW, none of cows in picture would be less than Rs.30,000 at all.
I am not so fond of going Mandi to buy animals for Qurbani but whenever I went, I did enjoy. This is something which I think no guy would disagree who go Mandi to buy animal. I have been quite busy due to office work therefore I am not going with my cousins this time. Hope they would buy some good Janwar in reasonable price.

A reader on Karachi Metroblog shared this beautiful piece.
This is an EID gift from my side to all Muslim readers. Feel this beautiful piece.
Sunday would be the 1st Shawwal-ul-Mukarram in Pakistan which would start a three days festival for Pakistani muslims. Eid as most of you might know is the gift of Allah for those who actually take advantage of this month.
2007 is the year which is not good for us and made us cry many times, still it’s bleeding like hell and on occasion of 27th Ramadan, I heard news of bombartment in Wazristan areas which converted several women and kids into pieces.
So, this is another EID which we we’re going to celebrate. People are buying lots of stuff from markets. I am recieving greetings via mails, eid cards etc. I am usually not a party person and Eid was always just another day for me.
Imagine if someone in your family or beloved one passes away before Eid or in month of Ramadan, how would you feel? would like to smile, have fun, throw parties or you would try to celebrate it simply and according to Sunnah. Don’t get confused or take me wrong that Muslims shouldn’t celebrate Eid. It’s the reward by Allah for those who perform Ibadah in whole month, refusing to obey His order would just ruin all our prayers. Unfortunately Eid for us has just become an excuse of excessive shopping, buying clothes and visiting relatives, nothing else. None of us try to seek the spiritual side of the Eid.
My fellow blogger and a known figure Sabahat Bhai(aka iFaqeer) lost his dad in month. I don’t need to tell worth of father or mother for any child and definately it was more than a pain for Sabahat bhai’s family. It would be quite natural that his family would not feel same on this eid and wouldn’t be cheerish enough to enjoy the ‘glamorous’ side of Eid(which we should always avoid). This is why Sabahat set a message on his Facebook profile which I agree 100%, Sabahat says, let’s focus on the spiritual side of the season.
My fellow blogger would be in pain because he lost his loved one. People like you or me are still lucky that so far we have not lost any closed relative and we are mast in our life and busy in buying stuff even during prayer times. Imagine if(Godforbid) you hear a news that someone in your family passes away, how would it make you feel? will you like to continue shopping by saying, I am busy at the moment!? Imagine you hear such news during shopping which just takes away your soul and then you see few people near to you busy in Hulla Gulla and masti and laughing out loud. How would it feel to you? For a moment you would like to throw them away and you would like to cry out loud. Why the hell are you going to feel like that? Just because you lost someone closed to your heart? why do you expect others cry for you or even feel for you?… But then your heart will not listen any logic. Your brain won’t respond you sensibly, after all you have just lost your closed one.
The way you suffer or could suffer, someone else would have suffered or suffering in your country. Ghazala Khan of TPS made an excellent post about disaster in Wazirstan area, I second/thired/nth to words of Ghazala. Do remeber this is not the only one. In 2007 we faced horrible Balochistan flood and people are still suffering over there, we are not hearing any news due to political stunts one after another. We then experienced 12th may massacare in karachi when I lost 45+ people of my own city. We then suffered deaths due to rain, again 30+ people died and then we had lal masjid’s sadist incident when I saw that soldiers invading a mosque, offending books of Quran and Hadiths by dumping them in nullah(savrage lines). I am not including Waziristan crisis because it has become an obvious conflict in Pakistan. One after another we faced so many problems. On top of that, we have not yet made those people calm who lost everything in earthquake 2005. I remeber that during earth quake crises(which is still ON), I didn’t find too many crowd in markets and even newspaper reported it. Everyone was willing to contribute and help those people. Even beggers were complaining that people were not given them money and they were mad their all Kamai went for Earthquake victims.
The question which bothered that time and bothering me this year again, Do we always need a natural disaster as an excuse to realize others’ pain? Is it necessary that unless we suffer ourselves, we can’t feel pain of others? Things have changed a lot from 2005, we have faced so many crisis that even Balochistan flood couldn’t motivate us. Maybe we are eagerly waiting for some kind of disaster which Quran tells us about nations of Aad and Samood or Noah’s? If there’s something like that then we are going to make the biggest mistake because then we would not survive either.
I would just say one thing, just try to consider all those who lost their lives this year due to different crisis your loved one and feel their pain. I am not gonna tell you WHAT YOU DO FOR THEM because you are not told when you lose your own relatives. I am sure once you consider them your own relatives, you wouldn’t require any teacher to teach you a lesson, just like nobody asks you to give you tips to feel pain when you lose your mom, your dad, your sister, wife or anyone who’s near to you.
May Allah bless all of you. Do celebrate eid but by thanking Allah who gave you another chance to become a zero-meter Muslim rather polluting yourself more after getting involved in same activities and fantasies. Eid Mobarak.
On a related note, as I requested/advised all Muslim men on earth, do pay attention what I’m expecting from all of you. Do give them credit to make you a human being and keeping your name high.
