Pouring Data from a cup

Saturday, April 5th, 2008

I know this is not a technical blog but the idea is so wicked that I couldn’t resist to post here as well.

A new kind of PC architecture is being discussed which would follow the concept of a cup of tea.

Imagine data is being poured all over…

How Interesting! But make sure you don’t sip too much while visiting a super model’s website to check how hot she is. It could burn you as well :-)

Cybernet email phishing

Thursday, April 3rd, 2008

Phishing is not something new for web based emails like Yahoo!,MSN or account sites like Paypal but this is first time I experienced this thing in a local email service. I have been cybernet email user for 3 years. Tonight when I logged in, I found an email by “Cybernet Customer Support” about my account suspension. I thought my account has been finally suspended which I got when I used to work at Cybernet but it didn’t take seconds to find out that it was a phishing attempt. If you are Cybernet user, you may also get following mail:

Shoaib Akhter banned for 5 years!

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008

PCB Nasim Ashraf followed the foot steps of his mentor, Gen.(retard) Pervez Musharraf and banned Shoaib Akhter for 5 long years, the tenure which is required for a Pakistni assembly to function properly. The reason is violation of players code of conduct. From CricInfo:

“The board has lost confidence in Shoaib Akhtar and therefore felt his presence in the field was damaging to the Pakistan team, for Pakistan players and for the image of Pakistan cricket,” the PCB chairman, Nasim Ashraf, told AFP. “The committee has recommended a five-year ban for Shoaib Akhtar. He will be ineligible to play in Pakistan or to play for Pakistan anywhere else in the world. [It is] a sad day for me and for Shoaib Akhtar. He is such a talented player.”

This is utterly cruel and I don’t support it! 5 years is a long time. It’s beyond the limits of punishment one player can get. So many corrupt players like Wasim,Ejaz, Ramiz etc were found guilty on various cases but never been punished. Nasim Ashraf has done same thing with Shoaib which Musharraf did with Qader Khan. No I am not comparing Khan and Akhter as there is no comparison. The point is that we live in a state where actual corrupt person is never caught and only those are targeted who are unable to defend themselves. I never supported his “extra” activities but it doesn’t mean I support something which is unfair.

Imran Khan on other hand has called for suspension of Ashraf. Hanif Abbasi, Member of NA has said that he would discuss this issue in Parliment.

Metroblog’s lame attempt of April fool Prank?

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008

I must say that this time Google couldn’t entertain me with their April fool prank. On other hand Sean of Metroblogging HQ tried to have fun with readers of Metroblog Karachi by coming up with a post.

Dear Readers of Karachi Metblogs,

It is with a sorry heart that we at the Metroblogging headquarters in Los Angeles have to announce that Karachi Metblogs will be shutting down for a while while we decide what is the best future for it. While I could certainly try to sugar coat this and blame corporate restructuring, the truth is we are just sick of the constand bitter rivalry within the ranks of the authors which has lead to absolute chaos on the site. Honestly, not a day goes by that one author isn’t e-mail me complaining about this or whining about that, and quite frankly I just don’t care enough to keep putting up with all of it. It’s become a nightmare and it has to end. To solve this issue we are forced to start afresh close the site entirely, step back, and decide what is the best future for this site. As the loyal readers of the site, we feel that your input in valuable and we’d like to get your thoughts on some of the options we are considering. Please take a moment to vote in the poll below and let us know what you think would be the best option for the site at this point. Please know that this wasn’t an easy decision for us, but for our own sanity we had to do something. I’ll be disabling comments because I’ve seen how long comment threads get here and really don’t have the patience to sort through something like that.

Karachi Metroblogs has been a great experience for us at Metblogs and we hope that it shall return to the forefront very soon, please bear with us. Until then KMB Rests in Peace.

It was not enough , our very own doctor saab came up with a seperate post and he even showed a screen shot of login error.

Ironically I am able to post comments in old posts other than first two which is quite interesting that I  am able to post comments on a suspended blog. On other hand reason given by Sean is so lame that it’s hard to believe. Anyways, for me it was not a thrilling stunt. Better luck next time. ;)

Islam surpasses Catholism,Jewish reaction

Monday, March 31st, 2008

The news has been in for last two days and almost every news resource quoting it.

Haaretz quote Vatican source:

“For the first time in history, we are no longer at the top: Muslims have overtaken us,” Monsignor Vittorio Formenti said in an interview with the Vatican newspaper L’Osservatore Romano. Formenti compiles the Vatican’s yearbook.

The most interesting comment came from a Jew on Haaretz website. Yered Shmuel says:

Australia loses its Judeo-Christian status. Not because I am racist, but because Arab Islamic culture is dirty - one only must look at Cairo or suburbs populated by Arab Muslims in any other Judeo-Christian society.

I fear the day when Israel loses its Jewish majority, and it will - it will be that day that my respect for the comparative paradise to the surrounding countries is gone.

Jewish Israelis better start breeding big!

This is the first time I experienced a jew admitting something which we have been told long time back via Quran and hadith sources. The issue is that like Muslims, there are communities among Jews as well who don’t listen what their “Imams”, the Rabis say. They also mock their religious scholars and talk about modernism in the name of Secularism. There were wickeds among them who even made attempt to alter Psalms and injected their “own” teachings, just like our modern libsrals and secularists have been trying to do these days in the name of distorted and twisted version of Sufism so naturally they shifted away from what orignial message God had given via Moses(AS).

Irony is that Muslims ain’t united. They are in various sects which we had already been told by The Prophet Muhammad(SAW). As long as Muslims don’t learn to criticize themselves first , they can’t dominate the world. Only waiting for Imam Mehdi and Jesus(AS) and doing NOTHING is not gonna be fruitful for us. They have to come on time which we can’t change but atleast it’s in our hand to fix ourself up. No?

Youtube banned in Pakistan

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

I just opened my laptop and logged on Gtalk. I found various mails by friends who gave me a bad news that Youtube has been banned in Pakistan. I had not believed it because I was able to access it since 3.00 PM but just tried again and found out that it has been banned. Following is the result of ping to both youtube.com and uk.youtube.com:

Pinging uk.youtube.com [208.65.153.238] with 32 bytes of data:

Request timed out.

Ping statistics for 208.65.153.238:

Pinging youtube.com [208.65.153.251] with 32 bytes of data:

Shakeel helped me to find out that blockage is at PIE level which  I found out by executing tracert utility.

I exactly don’t know what’s the actual reason but yaar log says that there were some videos published on Youtube which were singing praises of free and fair election in Pakistan.

A good news for feminists: Men not required!

Sunday, February 3rd, 2008

It seems that British scientist have finally heard the “voice” of women rights champions a.k.a feminists and have found a way to throw men out from their lives :-) From Dailymail:

British scientists are ready to turn female bone marrow into sperm, cutting men out of the process of creating life.

All children born due to this process will be females due to absence of Y chromosomes. So other great wish might come true since they will not give birth a “man” regardless of high chances of birth defects.

the news reported by Slashdot. As usual nerds gave some interesting funny remarks which you can read yourself.

Local IT talent: Can we stop Ibad?

Friday, February 1st, 2008

Pakistan is a very unfortunate country that it has lot of talent in various fields of life. The reason I said unfortunate because we always get failed to take advantage of our local resources and outsiders take full advantage of them and use them for their economy. We have habit to ofend local talent due to some lame reason whether it’s field of science and technology, education or arts, we love to ignore our talent and when it’s respected by others then we run after them. The very latest example is Pakistani comedians like Shakil Teeli,Kashif Khan and Rauf lala who were never respected in Pakistan but when India gave them respect then they are now invited in different cermonies. Irony!

Two and half years back I made a post about some local talent which were not respected in home which made an excuse to leave this country and earn outside. I mentioned about Adnan sabzwari who had made Pakistan’s first animated movie back in 90s when we could not think about animation in Pakistan then I made a post on the occasion of Pakistan’s 60th birthday and made an attempt to pay tribute our IT stars who made us proud in outer world. Most of people mentioned in that post left Pakistan for sake of better future since they were not able to do much in this country which actually pays more respect to ignorant and illetrate politicians than talented people.

Recently I came across an interview about a local IT talent in Jang paper who made a software to overcome plane hijacking.

Meet Ibad Ahmad who belongs to IT field. Ibad has made an anti-hijacking system which can regain the control of plane with in a minute!Yes, within a minute.

Details of the system are not mentioned( and I can understand the reason) . The article says he and his pals started this project but all of his pals got disappointed and leave him but this courageous guy never gave up and kept trying and one day he became successfull.

The thing which actually impressed me is NOT the technology but his passion for this country. When the interviewer asked him that why didn’t he sell his solution to some foriegn or 3rd party company, he said, “My objective is not to earn money only, I want to open the doors for other youngesters as well. If I would have sold this system to someone then could I serve my country?”

Amazing, simply amazing. This guy deserves to be respected but the question is, can our appreciation be helpful for him? Like majority of youngers, Ibad is pretty much disappointed about the future of software development in Pakistan.

Ibad has given a deadline of 18th Feb. After that like many other fresh brains, he would also fly to US or Europe where he would be given a respect which he deserves and money which he could not get in Pakistan. I am sure Ibad would not feel comfortable since it would give him pain that his services are not being helpful for his own people. When Ibad will get famous in western world due to his work then we would come out of ignorance and think, “Oh , he’s the same guy who made something for our comfort but we threw him out”. we will then respect him and give him job offers. In urdu there is an idiom, Thook kay Chaatna. we are like such people. Curse upon us. I don’t know how many more Ibads we have to lose. All I know that we have to stop this brain drain anyway. If we really have to export something then we should export our flith in the form of politicians so that it could be helpful for us. I just hope that someone read about him and can do something for his product.

Ibad also claims that he could make a security system which can guard banks, pumps etc and there would be no need to hire guards. Ironically he’s not being taken seriously. We literally going to lose a gem due to our ignorance. I don’t know how to stop this guy. Can you stop Ibad for sake of this country?
