Zil Hajj: A sunnah which can be performed easily

Friday, December 5, 2008 at 6:41 pm

Islam is the easiest religion on earth for those who actually don’t consider it peforming rituals only.

Yesterday I was reading a book of hadiths in which I found a referrence that eating meat is actually Sunnah of Rasool(S.A.W) and the meaning of that hadith by Tibrani is that the meat is the ‘head’ of all meals both on earth and heaven.

There is another hadith in Sahih Bukhari:

Narrated Anas:
The Prophet said, “The superiority of ‘Aisha to other women is like the superiority of Tharid to other kinds of food .

Insha Allah most of us would be busy  in eating slaughtered meat next week. If we just eat with the intention that it’s a sunnah then we are automatically going to earn lots of reward by Allah(S.W.T). Is it difficult? You just have to keep this in mind that you are eating because the Prophet(S.A.W) liked it. I don’t say you should just eat meat, even you are a vegeterian then do take a bit to perform a sunnah. Your body and diet is not more important than the act of the Prophet(S.A.W).

Tomorrow is the dayo of Arafah. Though fasting 1st 10 days is very benefitial for us but even if you have skipped 1st week like me, you still have a chance. Try to keep fast tomorrow, Allah(SWT) would give you lots of Ajr.

Javeria has made a post about 1st ten days of ZilHajj. Also read the comment by Dr.Nighat on same post.

Update: my class fellow Atif just left a comment that the day of Arafah would be according to our own Calendar. Since it’s not 9th in Pakistan so tomorrow is not day of Arafah in Pakistan. Read here.

  1. Salamalikum,

First ten days are very important in which you should do many good deeds. But, you can’t first on the 10th because that’s the day for Eid. So, we fast the first nine days and the ninth day is the most important one, which is the day of Arafat. The next day is the 10th and that’s the Eid day. You can’t fast on Eid, as we all know.

  2. Walikum salam

Isn’t 8th ZilHajj the day of Arafah? i think its 8th in saudia today

  3. 9th zil-hajj is the day of Arafah, and the 9th of zil-haj is tomorrow, 7th of December, in Saudi Arabia! :)

  4. Assalam-o-Alaikum wr

Youmul Arafah is 9th of Zuilhijjah according to your own calender

Read the article by Hadhrat Mufti Taqi Usmani

  5. Salamalikum,

No, it’s the ninth of Dhul Hijjah that is the day of Arafat. 8th is when people have to get to Mina. Then, on ninth they go to Arafat, spend the whole day there, then travel to spend the whole night (the night of tenth…the night following the ninth day) in Muzdalifah. Then, after fajr ends, travel from Muzdalifah back to Mina, which is the day of 10th and is known as yaum al-nahr (the day of sacrifice) and of course, this day is Eidul Adha. This is also the day you have to hit all three symbols of shaytaan, shave/cut your hair and do tawaaf. Once you do two out of three of these things (shave, jamaraat, tawaaf) you can come out of your ihraam.

So, we don’t fast on the 10th, but rather the first nine days culminating with the greatest of days, the day of Arafat.
