Man is greedy by nature. It has always lust to have things more and more. It increases more when a man is given option to kill his hunger fo earning more. Capitalism in Karachi has started showing its true color. Now we will be hearing more and more such news. According to The News:

Karachi

Due to the alleged immense pressure and threats from the loan recovery staff of a bank, a man committed suicide inside his house within the jurisdiction of the New Karachi police station.

Mohammed Tufail, 27, according to his father, Mohammed Munchi, was residing at R-93, Block-11L, New Karachi, which is where he committed suicide.

He added that his son, Tufail, got married a few years back and had one son. Due to some differences with Tufail, his wife had left him and gone to her parents’ house. A few months back, he had also gone through another setback, suffering a big financial loss in his LPG business.

Later, he applied for a loan from the Muslim Commercial Bank (MCB). Due to a delay in the payment of an instalment, the recovery staff of the MCB started visiting his house and threatening him with dire consequences. On Sunday, when Tufail was present at his house, the recovery personnel once again came calling and began to continuously pressurise his son. After a heated argument, the MCB recovery staff left.

Later, ostensibly due to the constant harassment of the recovery staff, Tufail locked himself inside his room and hanged himself from a ceiling fan.

Station House Officer, New Karachi, Pervez Gujjar, said that they were waiting for the statement of the family and, as soon as they approached the police for the registration of an FIR against the recovery staff of the MCB, they would oblige.

We should not cry neither we should blame MCB Bank. After all it was all about “Dil Mangay More” that provoked Tufail to” take advantage” of such friendly loan schemes by Pakistani banks who are like our slaves and ready to make our dreams come true at the cost of filth like Interest. IMO, West has hurt us more by injecting Capitalism among Muslims than things like vulgarity and lewdness because things offered by Capitalism are mostly associated with Interest rate. Any Muslim can understand that vulgarity is bad and hence this move might not be much influential. Atleast people still consider vulgarity and lewdness are bad things but when one takes loan, he/she is concerned more about getting loan ASAP to get his desired stuff rather to think about consequences. Capitalism which is opposed to Islamic concept of Economy restricts money in few hand while Islam’s Zakat concept keep the money in flow among all.

Now who should be blamed here? I don’t know. Maybe to government that it has created such environment where people are getting used to earn things easily at the cost of their life or to blame people that they have become more greedy. I am living in the era that if I have Rs.15,000 in pocket, I can get a brand new car within a week. At first it sounds good but then we have to face things like faced by Tufail. May Allah keep us safe from such loans. Ameen.

  1. Salamalaikum

Very sad event, very sad. However, this is just a start…these cases will pick up but Allah knows best. Of course, dying by committing suicide is not a good sign of one’s ending. And, of course Allah has declared the haram action of dealing (taking, giving, assisting, being a witness) souood (interest) akin to waging a war with Him and His rasool (saw).

On top of dealing with interest-based loans, the way MCB harrassed this person is inhumane. I hope the police take account of such tactics of these banks. And, how dare these fee-collectors entered Muhammad Tufail’s house without his permission and harrassed the family?

Allah says (meaning): “O you who believe! Enter not houses other than your own, until you have asked permission and greeted those in them; that is better for you, in order that you may remember” (Surah an-Noor; ayah 27)

Also, in an authentic hadith if I remember correctly, Rasoolullah (saw) said that if a person throws a pebble at another one who’s trying to enter his house without his permission and in the process injuries the other’s eyes, there will be NO qisas on the thrower. In other words, it’s such a big sin to enter somebody’s house without permission that if one unintentionally injures another guy, who is trying to enter his house without permission, he doesn’t have to pay any penalty to the injured person…he’s not responsible. (I’ll have to look up the reference for it because I can’t recall/find it right now).

Both parties here are to be blamed, plus the government. You are right, it might be easy for us to say don’t take any interest-based loan when we have money in our pockets and don’t have to face critical situations. That’s why Rasoolullah (saw) himself used to ask refuge from the fitna of extreme poverty. But, on the other hand poverty is not an excuse to commit haram. We should pray that Allah keep us away from situations where we might even think about dealing in interest.

I ask Allah to forgive Muhammad Tufail for his sins of committing suicide and dealing with interests, and to give us hidayat to stay away from interests and to the govt. to eradicate interest-giving institutions. We seek Allah’s help.

  2. Its really a heart breaking news, and in recent days, these suicide are getting very common in our society, which cleary shows the signs of capatilism, raising the difference b/w poor & rich.

  3. i have noticed that the un-lawness is increasing in this country. every one is doing wat he want, by giving very little money to police. Only jusstice can help us out in this situation.

Humary majiority tu pehlay he “bay-deen” hay. they wont understand kay yeh sub ALLAH ka azab hay

  4. MCB is a deceptive name itself. How can it be Muslim and then banking with Interest at the same time.

Banks like *Meezan Bank* who claim to be riba-free, charge the same amount of ‘fees’ on the money they give out as loan and they just change the name to some arabic word. Call it whatever name, the end user (borrower) ends up paying about the same money.

I’m not against riba-free. In fact I would love to bank with such an institution, but I wish the banks who claim to be interest free could practically show the people the difference between the interest-free and interest oriented banking.

If the Non-Interest banks charge 14% and the interest-Oriented bank charge 14%, then whats the difference to a consumer?

Non-interest banks do not have to be for ‘khidmat-e-khalq’ with 0.00 Rs as fees (interest or whatever you call) but then they should atleast live-upto the meanings of *interest free* banking.
