Nazimabad Underpass-Use at your own risk!!

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

A friend of mine who lives in Nazimabad No.1 told me that  the roof of recently built Nazimabad underpass has severely got cracked. I didn’t believe him. A day later I saw in Jang a picture about that Underpass and boy!, look yourself. Taken from Jang.

Oops! Scary! Dangerous! Keeping in mind the quality of material which is used, the traffic which is going thru this channel is under severe danger. The portion which you re seeing in this picture is the portion where they built an ‘amusement park’ for children.

Hey, read what MQM’s city govt says. From AAJ TV

City District Government Karachi (CDGK) has denied that any crack was developed in the Nazimabad Underpass in Liaquatabad town.

He said that minor craters on road on top of the underpass too was a minor matter, caused due to accumulated rainwater, adding the damaged portion had already been re-carpeted.

It may be recalled that news photo published in some newspapers on 27 August 2007 showed a crack on roof of the underpass and warned that the cracked portion of roof might fall down.

So according to MQM officials, these are not cracks. Yeah these are not cracks. Since our Nazim loves us so much and eager for beautification of Karachi, he hired services of Guljee who just demonstrated his art on roof of Nazimabad underpass.

Do this underpass at your own risk!! Infact whenever you use any underpass, make sure first that there is no crack in roof and wall of that underpass because we can’t afford the love of our city government much. *grin*

Roznama Boriat suspends its activities

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

Roznama Boriat has suspended their online e-paper.

Shariq Mustaqeem, the owner of Boriat News paper says:

قارئین کرام، ہم غم و خوشی کے ملے جلے جذبات کے ساتھ روزنامہ بوریت کراچی کی تمام اپ ڈیٹس کی معطلی کا اعلان کر رہے ہی

Shariq tells the reason:

دنیا میں محبت کے سوا اور بھی غم ہیں اور یہی وہ وجہ ہے جس کے باوصف ہمیں سائٹ کو معطل کر دینے کی ضرورت پیش آئی ہے۔ یاد رکھیے، ہر انسان کے ساتھ ایک پَیٹ لگا ہے، اور آج کے سقراط کو بھی بجلی کا بل ادا کرنا پڑے گا۔

As expected, lots of Boriat fans are not happy with the decision. I got introduced with this website one and half year ago via friend and become fan of it. The unique style of sarcasm was too good to send the message across. At that time I didn’t know that Shariq was my university fellow.

Shariq has suspended his paper due to his career move which I accept but it really saddens that a good urdu service will not function anymore. I can just hope Shariq will continue his love for Urdu from the place where he resides now. I can’t publicly reveal where Shariq is working now without his permission but I wish him best of luck for his new and bright career.

The month of Sha’baan-I

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

Sha’baan is the name of the (eighth) month, and it is so called because in this month the Arabs used to disperse (tasha’’aba) in search of water, or it was said that they dispersed to carry out raids and forays. Or it was said that it is so called because it sha’aba (branches out or emerges) i.e., it appears between the months of Rajab and Ramadaan. The plural forms of the word Sha’baan are Sha’baanaat and Sha’aabeen.

Fasting in Sha’baan

‘Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her) said: “The Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to fast until we thought he would never break his fast, and not fast until we thought he would never fast. I never saw the Messenger of Allaah fasting for an entire month except in Ramadaan, and I never saw him fast more than he did in Sha’baan.” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, no. 1833; Muslim, no. 1956).

According to a report narrated by Muslim (no. 1957), “He used to fast all of Sha’baan, he used to fast all but a little of Sha’baan.”

A group of scholars, including Ibn al-Mubaarak and others, thought that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) did not fast all of Sha’baan, but he fasted most of it. This is supported by a report in Saheeh Muslim (no. 1954) narrated from ‘Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her), who said: “I never knew of him – meaning the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) – fasting for any entire month apart from Ramadaan.” According to another report also narrated by Muslim (no. 1955), ‘Aa’ishah said: “I never saw him fast for any entire month from the time he came to Madeenah, apart from Ramadaan.”

It was reported in al-Saheehayn that Ibn ‘Abbaas said: “The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) did not fast any entire month apart from Ramadaan.” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, no. 1971, and Muslim, no. 1157). Ibn ‘Abbaas regarded it as makrooh to fast any entire month apart from Ramadaan. Ibn Hajar (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: “He observed more voluntary fasts in Sha’baan than in any other month, and he used to fast most of Sha’baan.”

Usaamah ibn Zayd (may Allaah be pleased with them both) said: “I said, ‘O Messenger of Allaah, I do not see you fasting in any other month like you fast in Sha’baan.’ He said, ‘That is a month to which people do not pay attention, between Rajab and Ramadaan, and it is a month in which deeds are lifted up to the Lord of the Worlds. I like for my deeds to be lifted up when I am fasting.’” (Narrated by al-Nasaa’i, see Saheeh al-Targheeb wa’l-Tarheeb, page 425). According to a report narrated by Abu Dawood (no. 2076) she said: “The most beloved of months for the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) to fast in was Sha’baan, and his fasting in Sha’baan was continuous with his fasting in Ramadaan.” (Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani, see Saheeh Sunan Abi Dawood, 2/461).

Ibn Rajab (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: “Fasting in Sha’baan is better than fasting in the Sacred Months, and the best of voluntary fasts are those that are (observed in the months) closest to Ramadaan, before or after. The status of these fasts is like that of al-Sunan al-Rawaatib which are done before and after fard (prayers) and which make up for any shortfall in the number of obliagtory prayers. The same applies to fasts observed before and after Ramadaan. Just as al-Sunan al-Rawaatib are better than other kinds of voluntary prayers, so fasts observed (in the months) before and after Ramadaan are better than fasts at other times.

The phrase “Sha’baan is a month to which people do not pay attention, between Rajab and Ramadaan” indicates that because it comes between two important months, the Sacred Month of Rajab and the month of fasting, people are preoccupied with those two months and they do not pay attention to Sha’baan. Many people think that fasting in Rajab is better than fasting in Sha’baan, because Rajab is one of the Sacred Months, but this is not the case.

In the hadeeth quoted above there is an indication that even though certain times, places and people may be commonly thought to posses a particular virtue, there may be others that are better than them.

It also indicates that it is mustahabb to make good use of the times when people tend to be negligent, by doing acts of worship. A group of the Salaf used to fill the time between Maghrib and ‘Isha’ with prayer, saying that it was a time when many people were negligent. Another example is the remembrance of Allaah (dhikr) in the marketplace, because this means one is remembering Him in a place where people tend to be negligent and among people who are negligent. There are a number of benefits that come from making good use of times when people are often negligent, and using these times for worship, including the following:

It is more concealing of one’s good works, and hiding and concealing naafil actions is better, especially fasting, because it is a secret between a slave and his Lord. Hence it was said that there is no element of showing off in fasting. One of the Salaf used to fast for years without anybody knowing about it; he would go from his home to the marketplace carrying two loaves of bread, which he would give away in charity, and he would fast. His family thought that he ate the bread, whilst the people in the marketplace thought that he had eaten at home. The Salaf thought it was mustahabb for a person who was fasting to do things that would conceal the fact that he was fasting. It was reported that Ibn Mas’ood said: “When you get up in the morning and you are fasting, then apply perfume.” Qutaadah said: “It is mustahabb for the [man] who is fasting to apply perfume so that there will be no sign that he is fasting.”

By the same token, doing righteous deeds at times when people are distracted and negligent is more difficult. One of the indications of how virtuous a deed is, is how difficult it is: if everyone is doing a certain action, it is easy, but if most people are negligent, this makes it more difficult for those who do remember Allaah. Muslim (no. 2984) narrated from the hadeeth of Ma’qil ibn Yassaar: “[The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:] ‘Worship at times of tribulation (fitnah) is like Hijrah to me.’” (The phrase “worship at times of tribulation” refers to times of upheavals and trials, when people follow their own desires, and those who adhere to Islam are doing something difficult.)

The scholars differed as to the reasons why the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) fasted so much in Sha’baan. Their various opinions were as follows:

1. That he had been unable to fast three days out of every month because he was travelling or for some other reason, so he made them all up together in Sha’baan. When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) began to do some naafil action, he would persist in it, and if he missed it, he would make it up later.
2. It was said that his wives used to make up the days that they missed of Ramadaan in Sha’baan, so he used to fast because of that. This is the opposite of what was reported from ‘Aa’ishah, that she used to delay making up days that she had missed in Ramadaan until Sha’baan because she was too busy with the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) to fast.
3. It was said that it was because this is a month which people do not pay attention to. This is the most correct view, because of the hadeeth of Usaamah quoted above, in which it says: “That is a month to which people do not pay attention, between Rajab and Ramadaan.”
(Narrated by al-Nasaa’i, see Saheeh al-Targheeb wa’l-Tarheeb, p. 425)

When Sha’baan began, if the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) still had some voluntary fasts outstanding that he had not fasted, he would make them up during Sha’baan so that his naafil fasts would be complete before Ramadaan came. Similarly, if he had missed some Sunnah prayers or he had missed Qiyaam al-Layl, he would make it up. ‘Aa’ishah used to make the most of this opportunity to make up any obligatory Ramadaan fasts that she had missed because of menstruation; during other months she was too busy with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) to fast. We should also note here that anyone who has any missed fasts to make up has to make them up before the next Ramadaan comes. It is not permissible to delay it until after the following Ramadaan except in cases of necessity (such as a valid excuse that continues between the two Ramadaans). Whoever is able to make them up before the (second) Ramadaan and does not do so, has to make them up after the (second) Ramadaan and in addition to that, he has to repent and to feed one poor person for each day that he missed. This is the view of Maalik, al-Shaafa’i and Ahmad.

Another benefit of fasting in Sha’baan is that it is a kind of training for the Ramadaan fast, in case a person finds it difficult to fast when Ramadaan starts; if he fasts in Sha’baan he will have gotten used to fasting and he will feel strong and energetic when Ramadaan comes. Sha’baan is like an introduction to Ramadaan and it has some things in common with Ramadaan, such as fasting, reciting Qur’aan and giving in charity. Salamah ibn Suhayl used to say: “The month of Sha’baan is the month of reciters (of the Qur’aan).” Habeeb ibn Abi Thaabit used to say, when Sha’baan came, “This is the month of reciters (of the Qur’aan).” When Sha’baan came, ‘Amr ibn Qays al-Malaa’i used to close his store and devote his time to reading the Qur’aan.

Mangnay Ka Maza Aaj ki raat hay

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

Tonight is 15th Shabaan , the night which is called Lailaat-ul-Baraat that is night of emancipation.  This night is very important as Allah decides who would born in next coming year and who would leave us. Allah also assigns Rizq of every living on earth. In simple words, this is the night which could be compared with the last day of fiscal year which is called closing. Old stuff is closed after compilation, new things are decided therefore it’s advised to all Muslims to  take advantage of this night as much as they can. Shab-e-Barat doesn’t start after 12:00 AM night, it starts after Maghrib since Islamic day starts after sun set till the sun rise therefore people who thinks that Shab-e-Barat means whole night marathon then they are wrong. If your health doesn’t allow you to perform prayers whole night then you can just pray after maghrib to Isha or more till you feel to go sleep. Do remember one thing, Allah(swt) resides on the 7th Sky from Maghrib to Fajr. This is something which only happens at Tahajud time when Allah(swt) comes on 7th Sky and Allah gives us a chance to ask for His blessings, good life and for Rizq. The one hour of Tahajud is extended to 10 hours approximately so that muslims who couldn’t offer prayers in Tahajud last year could try a luck and earned everything which they missed last year. This is the night when Allah would have decided whether your blogger would stay alive next year or not. Actually Allah(Swt) is our creator, HE had decided in very beginning who will come at what time and when would he depart, it’s just there is a system made by Him which is followed. Technically Allah didn’t need any such night to perform His task because He,the great programmer already made everything in the beginning and executed it. It’s just He wanted to give us humans a way to perform His Ibadat and repant.

So please, don’t miss the chance. Be a wise businessman and tries to earn as much as you can by this FREE offer by Allah. Also, do remember me in your prayers.

Cricket Crisis: PCB’s constitution paper got lost??

Monday, August 27th, 2007

I must repeat that I never liked the existanc of Nasim Ashraf as a chairman of PCB and I had shared the reasons here and here. I have been reading for a month now about current cricket crisis in Pakistan specially after the birth of ICL(Indian Cricket League) ,managed by Zee network India. The league has attracted many famous players around the world including Pakistani players like Mohamamd Yousuf,Inzy,Imran Farhat,Azhar Mahmood and Razzaq. The league is rapidly becoming a threat for Cricket boards and both ICB and PCB are sending touch messages to ICL but Indian court ordered ICB not to take action against ICL players.

So far I was least bothered about this entire Saga untill I read today a news in Jang that PCB’s constitution papers got lost somewhere. I was like, What? According to Jang:

Can you believe it? Ashraf was doing Topi Drama about the constitution that A.G Office is delaying in the implementation of the PCB constitution while in reality they don’t have document of the constitution?? Do you think it’s is too much? No it’s not. Another Jang news:

Dawn reports that Senat’s standing comittie on sports asks PCB to give a detailed report about salary structure of PCB officials while The News reports that standing comittie got mad on the absence of PCB’s top officials who didn’t appear infront of comittie. How could they appear when all of them having fun out of Pakistan? Many of you would have been reading how senior players are reacting on pathetic attitude of PCB towards them and players like Inzy,Imran Farhat and now Razzaq expressed their concerns about attitude of PCB. Inzy who were known as a coolest captain of Pakistan have got pissed so much that they have threatened PCB that if PCB tries to poke its nose in the middle then they would go in courts and you all know how SC has been taking action against wrong things being done by Musharraf and Co and there are chances that PCB would be in trouble if Inzy goes in court. This is not enough! Razzaq also lashes out and says that he will not change his decision unless the current setup is dissolved.

Things are really going very worst for Pakistani cricket and I don’t see any hope unless Supreme court takes Suo Motto Action against Ashraf and his goons. We are going Kenya and I think Kenyans will beat us. I also got chance to read Razzaq’s interview in today’s Jang. I do agree with him. Respect comes first than anything else.

Akbar Bugti, A year has passed

Sunday, August 26th, 2007

I know it was me who was happy on the death of Bugti. Offcourse the dictator was not exposed fully to me at that time and I took his step as a Positive move for Pakistan. I was happy that Musharraf killed an enemy of my country. I think entire opposite now. Let me explain what I used to think at that time and what are similarities exist in my different perceptions.

The reason I hated Bugti and loved Musharraf was very simple. I had seen Musharraf as a savior of Pakistan. I don’t know whether I shared before or not, I was big fan of his speeches, the way he used to speak and adressing others. I became his fan afta his India trip where he beautifully tackled Indian media. It was quite natural that I became fan of his policies as well.

I had been reading lots of stuff about Bugti. Offcourse he was not saint at all. I was very much excited that , Yayyy , we killed our enemy . I didn’t know at that time that real enemy is the person who is called Musharraf in the world. I didn’t take serious the comments made by my respectable readers here and I thought they are just being anti Of musharraf. In short, I was just being an ignorant. But, was I really being ignorant? allow me to share my point of view. My point was, I wouldn’t like any one who goes against my country and support those who save my country. Very simple thought and there is nothing between lines. Now, who met the criteria? AN year back it was Mushrraf whom I think is the only right man which meets the criteria of a good man and Bugi as a bad man.

Time passed and then month of December came when we lost Bangladesh. I had decided to study about this issue. Prior to make posts about Bangladesh, I used to think Mujeebur Rahman as enemy of Pakistan but when I read in detailed about the entire drama set by Yayah and Bhutto, I found Najeeb a victim of pathetic politics of Pakistan. I found that Najeeb was not an enemy neither he wanted a seprate state, he was just forced to get a seprate state. My posts about 16th December tragedy are here and here.

The way my thinking got changed about Mujeeb, it got changed about Bugti as well. I don’t say I know much about bugti, I really don’t know much but my criteria of savior of Pakistan was not later followed by dictator Musharraf. Killing in Waziristan, Lal Masjid tragedy, missing people case, CJ saga ,ridiculing Islam in the name of enlightenment and moderation, these things were not exposed much at that time. So whether it was ignorance or innocence, I feel sorry for it and I admit my mistake. I don’t know much about Bugti but time will sure expose the real culprits, just like it exposed the real culprit of Fall of Dhaka. All I will say, may Allah keeps this state safe from enemies and from so called saviors of this country-Ameen.
