Thursday, March 29th, 2007

According to this public notice in Jang, there is NO Albaik yet in Pakistan. so Mushtari Hoshyaar Bash!

Now sit back and relax and don’t cry if you have already been fooled by visiting that place. I am lucky enough that I didn’t make any attempt to try the meal though there is only 10 mins walking distance from my home.

When ZA Bhutto quit Security Council

Wednesday, March 28th, 2007

This is something you can’t expect by current Pakistani leaders, even by His daughter Benazir.

The background of this speech is given at Wikipedia

Tagged:,,

After the incursion of Pakistani forces was detected, India launched a full-scale military operation in Kashmir and the Punjab region. Following the outbreak of war, Bhutto delivered a fiery speech at the UN Security Council waving his hands and index finger condemning India for aggression and declaring “we will fight for a thousand years” before ripping apart some Security Council papers and storming out of the hall. After two weeks of fierce fighting, both nations faced considerable political pressure from the U.S., the U.K. and the Soviet Union and agreed to a ceasefire sponsored by the UN. Although the conflict had resulted in a stalemate, the advance of Indian forces into close proximity with the city of Lahore caused widespread criticism of Ayub’s management of the war. Bhutto joined Ayub in Tashkent to negotiate a peace treaty with the Indian Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri. Ayub and Shastri agreed to exchange prisoners of war and withdraw respective forces to pre-war boundaries. This agreement was deeply unpopular in Pakistan, causing major political unrest against Ayub’s regime. Bhutto’s criticism of the final agreement caused a major rift between him and Ayub Khan. Initially denying the rumours, Bhutto resigned in June, 1967 and expressed strong opposition to Ayub’s regime

Setting religious mobile tones

Monday, March 26th, 2007

We are the people who seek shortcut in everything, even in religion. We try to get maximum benefit by putting little efforts. We don’t have time to offer prayers 5 times a day, even Farz prayers but we get motivated to stand for long time to offer lots of Nafils[by not offering Farz prayers] to seek the happiness of Allah. We don’t get time to read Quran but yes we DO have time to read Punj Surah, Ayat-e-Karima , Visiting different shrines for Duas and Mannat etc etc. You just name it!

Since it’s a modern age and mobile is being used by everyone these days. Our shortcut loving people didn’t miss a chance to use modern technology to get into Jannah. What they did that they created mobile ring tones of Azaan,Quranic recitation ,Naat ,Nasheeds etc so that if someone make a call, others will hear some Islamic tone or recitation. Hence they found an easiest way to show off their association with a religion. This habit is not in Pakistan only, it’s everywhere.

Now are we not fooling ourselves and committing sins by setting such tones? Allow me to explain why this is a sin. Mobiles are usually carried along in washroom as well which is obviously very offensive. Second thing is that so many times you cut the ring tone in middle so in case if you have set some Azaan, naat or Quranic recitation and you interrupt in middle then this is actually you are offending the religion. I heard few people who got mad when was stopped to set such tones and said that they are doing right because they are not setting any music tones.

I ask one question from such friends. Suppose you are in a party with your parents and in discussion with other people. Now what happens that when your mother or dad opens mouth to say something, they are interrupted by someone else. Now tell me how would you feel at that time? wouldn’t feel offensive and start cursing the person because he/she just offending your parents by interrupting in the middle. Will you not start giving him lecture of ethics and manners? Now apply same equation for Allah. He’s more respectable than anyone else in universe, how come your heart get convinced to interrupt His words in the middle? Is it not sign of hypocrisy? Are we not just offending our own religion?

I remember that last year when I was watching Indian Idol, one of the contestant was asked about patriotism. The guy was so patriotic that he said that he didn’t like setting ring tones of Vande Matram. Sonu Nigam, the judge got surprised and asked how come it’s unpatriotic. The answer given by the young chap was amazing. He just said that He didn’t like when people interrupt in the middle of national anthem because it’s like offending the national anthem. The whole audience clapped and no doubt the feelings of that guy deserves to be respected. When he could be so sensitive for a national anthem then why are we not touchy for Islamic text? Please ponder once what are you doing in the name of religion. You at one side earning sins by setting such tones but also earning more sins by disturbing others because when such ring tones ring in an office then nobody actually pay attention hence it makes thing more worst for you.

It’s also surprising that people forget to make their cells silent while offering prayers in Masjid. I wonder whether such people can forget to mute their cells while in a meeting or in discussion with boss? Since Boss is visible thus we have fear of it and Allah is invisible so we just ignore Him. I remember a month back before Umrah while offering Jummah in Masjid, I got disturbed badly when I just raised hands for saying Allah Akbar. Someone’s mobile started singing a song. The day I hate music so much that I feel ashamed that I was also an addict of music. From that day I quit listening Music and so far I am acting upon it. May Allah give me enough strength to continue this habit.

If you are dying to set some music tone and forget to mute your cell and join salat session, you can always mute it with one hand while praying. It sounds so stupid that people don’t cut the line as they think they re busy in prayers and would commit a sin while they are committing double sin , first by setting such tones second disturbing other people who are busy in prayers.

Please don’t make things difficult for you. Just think once what are you doing.

Chief Justice was removed because..

Sunday, March 25th, 2007

In losing ground I told the mentality of dictators that they started believing to interfere in every matter of the state their right regardless it pertains to them or not. Justice Iftikhar was not removed at the time when I wrote that article but removal of Chief Justice is just another example of mental illness of dictatorship when it reaches to peak. Justice Iftikhar who took Suo motto actions against few govt decisions like privatization of Steel Mill ,celebrating Basant and most important asking govt about missing people who have been kidnapped by govt agencies from different part of the country was not being appreciated by govt elements. The general who belives himself the most powerful man in Pakistan had believed that removing CJ is an easy thing and none will react because Pakistan didn’t react at the time of removing of AQ Khan and killing Bugti. The General thought that when Pakistanis didn’t react against their national hero Qadeer Khan then how could they react on his move against CJ therefore he called CJ at his camp office ,questioned him and finally removed him. The general thought that game was over but general had no idea that he just hit axe on his own toe. All of sudden all lawyers, media and general public was against President’s action against Judiciary. Everyone started cursing Musharraf publicly. People who had been supporting Musharraf for long time were also embarrassed after knowing the real face of ‘ Enlightened and Moderated’ *Democratic* dictator. This is why people like Ayaz Amir who was very happy after Hudood Bill was cursing Musharraf’s enlightenment and moderation.

Now the question is Why did Musharraf think to go for such action? Was it his individual decision? I believe it was not and he would have asked his closed military peers to give their opinions about the outcome of this action. Obviously his peers would have agreed wit him[Atleast it does look like that at this moment] and used his weakness of Heroism to motivate him by using *lovely words* about his strength. Were the peers really so ignorant about the outcome or they have decided to go against the dictator who failed to guard American interest in the region and despite of making all efforts, he’ s still not a darling of US establishment. Australian revealed a report in which it has been planned to kick Musharraf out from the scene and bring someone else in power who can guard America’s war on terror efficiently and cleverly. According to Report, Gen. Ahsan Hayat could be the next man in the game. Ahsan Hayat also posses a secular mind like Musharraf and willing to promote secularism and liberalism in the name of SOFT IMAGE of Pakistan. But Do US really want to install another military man to finish incomplete tasks? To know the answer of this question, it would be intresting to read what David Kilcullen is planning about. According to Timesonline , He’s reshaping the military plan which is based on T.E.Lawrence’s plan to win the heart and minds of Talibans and native afghans who consider America their enemy.

It’s commonly believed now that there is a distance between Musharraf and Bush Administration and they are expressing the differences via various statements. Offcourse Uncle Sam is worried about current CJ crisis and ordered Mush to handle things carefully but bad luck of Mush that things have gone out of hand. Bloody action against laywers, attack on GEO channel ,censoring one of GEO’s program, forcing other channels NOT to cover CJ related news etc etc. Musharraf is so confused and hyper that he actually apologized GEO after attack. This is the first time some Pakistani ruler apologized publicly. This looks more weird when people know that Musharraf is the person who hardly apologize for something.

As we all know that military plan of US is failed in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Several hundred soldiers have been killed in suicide bombing and other attacks. This has increased severe tension back in US and Americans and politicians demanding the return of troops. Mr. Rober Gates who is very vocal to call US troops back and closing Gitmo jail recently made a statement that US has kept an eye on recent judiciary crisis in Pakistan. According to Dawn:

WASHINGTON, March 23: The United States is closely watching a political challenge to President Gen Pervez Musharraf over his suspension of Chief Justice Iftikhar Moham-mad Chaudhry, US Defence Secretary Robert Gates said on Thursday.

Watching closely. Hmm does that mean US is actively involved in whole situation and observing the outcome of entire thing? I am not doubting the opponent party of Musharraf but the way *everyone* seems united against Musharraf looks very weird to me. This nation didn’t get united when AQ Khan was arrested. He’s our genuine hero of Pakistanis. He appeared on TV and asked for public apology, still media didn’t react severely. What was so special about CJ that it created so much heat? This is not the first time that judiciary was offended by anyone. In past Nawaz Shareef used his power to control Judiciary. What’s so special in this case that all lawyers came out on roads and even outer world is also taking interest. May I ?dare to say that current situation has been created to remove General from power? before you start cursing me that I am making CJ’s personality controversial, let me tell you that there is nothing like that, I respect CJ Iftikhar like any other Pakistanis and I respect his stand against Musharraf but you should realize that current mess in Pakistan is not being controlled by CJ Iftikhar neither he would have expected that everyone would start supporting him. Whatever CJ Iftikhar did, he did individually and recent demonstrations and chaos in Pakistan was not being controlled by CJ Iftikhar but there is surety that US would certainly take advantage of current situation. I think this is the reason US is keeping a distance from Musharraf after this judiciary crisis.

Keeping in mind Lawrence of Arabia factor and AUSTRALIAN reference about replacing Musharraf with some other element, allow me to find out who actually fulfill the equation coined by David Kilcullen about adapting Lawrence of Arabia policy to win the war on terror against Alqaeda.

  • Pakistan Peaoples Party/Benazir: PPP is considered the biggest political party in Pakistan which was founded by Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. Bhutto gained popularity among poors due to his slogan Roti, Kapra aur Makaan(bread, clothing and shelter). Zulfiqar Bhutto is considered father of Pakistani Atomic Program and he played a vital role to initiate Atomic program in Pakistan with the help of AQ.Khan. Zulfiqar’s daughter Benazir Bhutto who become Pakistan’s Prime Minister twice was not so successful to cash the inherited popularity of her father. Unlike the principles mentioned on PPP’s official website, PPP rather came out as a secular party and tried to avoid religion as much as they could. Benazir is also very much inclined towards USA and so many times she tried to convince Bush Administration that she could guard American Interest more efficiently and honestly than Musharraf. After years of preaching and pleading, it seems that US has finally listened her and considering to bring her in power again. This is the reason that US senators now asking Musharraf to bring these 2 guys back and allow them to participate. Obviously general will not agree even if he wants because for seven years, he has been repeating one thing that Nawaz and Bibi wouldn’t come back no matter what. If he agrees due to US pressure then his so called image will be screwed more infront of general public. Coming back to David’s plan, can PPP be considered the right candidate to fulfill David’s Lawrence of Arabia type plan? Offcourse Not because so many times Bibi repeated that Talibans are the biggest threat and wishes to defeat them ASAP, therefore it’s quite ridiculous that Talibans would trust Benazir even if she comes in power.
  • Pakistan Army: Umm.. There are pretty much chances that like Past, America would use Pakistan Army again to penetrate among Talibans and destroy them. America is still using Pakistan Army but not the entire Army. The secular elements of Pakistan Army are being promoted and used to participate war on terror. This is why Ahsan Hayat being named after Musharraf’s removal from power. If we keep David’s plan in mind then atleast such secular elements will not be considered trust worthy by Talibans and they would either simply reject them or start a war against them. The religious cabal within Pakistan Army could be stimulated by Americans. Now I am not sure how will it be done, whether they will ‘buy’ some black sheeps who would be equally popular among Talibans. ISI or other agencies could also be used to achieve this task.
  • MMA or other religious alliances: Despite of Infinite whining against America, MMA guys can’t be considered saints either. These was actually MMA guys who strengthened Musharraf by agreeing on 17th Amendment which gave Musharraf _legal_ reason to stay in power. So many times they tried to use religious to play dirty political games. Despite of all this, I personally believe that they wouldn’t be influential enough to convince Talibans that Americans or Pakistanis are their friends.
  • Tribes/FATA: IMO, These people are the strongest candidate to bring Talibans down. If they or some of them start helping US against Talibans then this could make a serious damage among Talibans because these people are tightly associated with Talibans. Though there are slim chances that they would go against Talibans but history has proved that US think tanks are strong enough to change the entire situation in a region so if they get successful against Talibans in this way then it would be the greatest achievement of US in past 5 years but the way US failed in Afghanistan,Iraq and then in Lebanon, it seems quite difficult that David’s dream could be fulfilled by them.
  • Musharraf: It might sound weird to you but if you closely look the politics of Musharraf, he appears much clever than any other Pakistani politicians. If Zia used Soviet or Jihad factor to get more and more money from US then Musharraf also busy in cashing the ‘War on Terror’ and ‘Taliban’ factors to get more and more money. In past Akhter Abdul Rahman’s corruption about selling Scud Missiles to Iran was highlited a lot. Same Akhter’s son is now Minister of Musharraf’s cabinet and enjoying life. Musharraf “sold” Pakistanis in name of Talibans and earned money. This is what American officials said as well even mentioned in Musharraf’s Life of Fire. There were news in papers a week back that Mush regime is trying to get in touch with Taliban with the help of Mullah Dadullah who was recently captured in Blotchistan province. If MMA came in power in 2002 elections in two provinces then it was all due to blessings of General Musharraf and it was done to send a message back to Washington that ‘I am not Impotent and I can also answer you’. Musharraf cleverly cashed the MMA factor and even setup fake suicidal attacks to gain the sympathies of outer world. Same Mush could agree to play a role of local Lawrence of Arabia as Lawrence of Asia to gain sympathies of Talibans and Mullah Dadullah could appear the first step to fulfill the plan.

I don’t know who will play the role or whether such plan would really be implemented in the region. I leave it upto you and future to decide the right candidate to bring the changes. I wil keep my lips sealed rather giving my concrete opinion.

First Pakistan then India

Friday, March 23rd, 2007

I was not watching the match. Just checked CricInfo that India lost the match. this was unexpected because Srilankans played a slow innings, still they managed to cross 250. I thought Indians would make it but then there was Murali. Amazing performance.

Now Indian players would be praying Om/Bhagwan that CHappel commits sucide or get murdered so that they don’t face the heat of 1 billion Indians :-)

Dear Bob, Please forgive us!

Monday, March 19th, 2007

Dear Bob,
I must confess that I had no regret after humiliated defeat against Ireland neither I was sad. It was a game and better side won the match. I also must admit that I was in great shock after hearing an unexpected and tragic news of your sad demise. I had no words to express my feelings. I tried to control myself and got successful but last night when I was offering Isha prayers before going to bed and raised my hands for Dua after farz, I couldn’t control myself. Tears started flowing out of my eyes and that was the first time I felt that you were very closed to me;very dearer to many Pakistanis who are grateful for all the efforts you made to make a scattered team to a winning combination. I was surprised, I mean why was I feeling like that about a person who was stranger for me and his status was nothing but a “Pakistani Cricket Team Coach”. I realized that it was all your sincerest efforts for cricket team of my country but wait a minute, I shouldn’t have said “My Country”, it was your country as well because I know you have loved is a lot. You always felt good to be here. As you said to Junaid Jamshed in England that you wanted to die as a Pakistani, it seems that God has listened your wish and you have died as a Person who was serving Pakistanis as a Pakistani.

I am sorry Bob, we in return gave you nothing but sorrows, insults and abuse. You made Pakistan your home but we Pakistanis made this state your graveyard. It’s not your fault Bob. God did right with you. We are the nation who don’t deserve good people among us. We are responsible for your death. So many times we killed our own good people with words of swords. I wonder how should we rate ourself different from Children Of Israel who used to kill Prophets because they used to speak different language? We would continue our practise till the last day, after all this is our hallmark. We didn’t deserve your love, really we didn’t deserve your efforts.

Dear Bob, Please forgive us! I know these words are not enough to hide our utter ignorance and shame but then I find no alternative words. You should realize that there are millions in Pakistan and across the globe who love you, admire and respect your efforts for different cricket teams around the world. I wish you would have thought once for those people but your time had come and man is mortal.

I don’t know whether we could pay something to you or not, I don’t know, I think we can’t compensate at all. All I can say What Elton Jhon sang for Diana:

Goodbye Dear Bob
may you ever grow in our hearts.
You were the grace that placed itself
where lives were torn apart.
You called out to our country,
and you whispered to those in pain.
Now you belong to heaven,
and the stars spell out your name.

And it seems to me you lived your life
like a candle in the wind:
never fading with the sunset
when the rain set in.
And your footsteps will always fall here,
among Pakistan’s bumpy roads;
your candle’s burned out long before
your legend ever will.

Loveliness we’ve lost;
these empty days without your smile.
This torch we’ll always carry
for our nation’s golden child.
And even though we try,
the truth brings us to tears;
all our words cannot express
the joy you brought us through the years.

Goodbye Dear Bob
from a country lost without your soul,
who’ll miss the wings of your compassion
more than you’ll ever know.

Please forgive us if you can. We have nothing to give you but tears and regret in return.
