Thori se jo pii lee hay

Thursday, February 8th, 2007

Log Kahtey Hain Mey Sharabi Houn, this is one of the Kishore’s songs which I liked a lot. Usually when you read poetry or listen songs, you feel that alcohol is only consumed by men only. I think this is some global conspiracy against men to label them as bad as they could be. Thanks to our researchers who proved otherwise. According to this post of science blog:

..latest study indicated that both male and female college students participate in drinking games regularly and that participation in those games leads to increased consumption of alcohol. Results of the study appeared in the November 2006 issue of Addictive Behaviors journal.

The research also showed that drinking games lead to an increase in women’s binge-drinking (four drinks in a row for females, five drinks in a row for males). Further, in the women, but not the men, playing drinking games was related to more severe negative alcohol-related problems (i.e. missing class, driving under the influence, engaging in unplanned or unprotected sexual activity, etc.)

Duh, scientists wasted not only their precious time but money as well to do this lame research, didn’t Rafi Sahab already revealed this secret  30 years back when he sang:

gulaabi aankhen jo teri dekhi sharaabi yeh dil ho gaya

Rafi Sahab and the poet had made extensive research on the eyes of sharabi or Sharaban?  Women this is why they came up with this gem.

Pankaj Udhas also shared his work by singing:

Sharab cheez he ayse hey na chori jaye, yeh ,mere yaar k jaise hay, na tori jaye

I hope next time these stupid researches will first contact Asian poets or singers so that they don’t waste their time in stupid researches and rather concentrate on something which could benefit humanity.

Nehru and Kashmir

Monday, February 5th, 2007

I want to repeat that Government of India will stand by that pledge, whatever happens. That pledge itself stated that it is for people of Kashmir to decide their fate without external interference.
(Address at Public meeting in Srinagar, June4, 1951, quoted from Hindu, Madras, June5, 1951)

Kashmir is not the property of India or Pakistan. It belongs to Kashmiri people. When Kashmir acceded to India, we made it clear to the Leaders of Kashmir people that we would ultimately abide by the verdict of their plebiscite. If they tell us to walk out, I would have no hesitation in quitting Kashmir.

We have taken the issue to the United Nations and given our word of honor for peaceful solution. As a great nation we can not go back on it. We have left the question of final solution to the people of Kashmir and we are determined to abide by their decision.
(Amrita Bazar Partika, Calcutta, January 2, 1952).

It means Indians are not great nation as per Nehru’s definition?

On other occasion:

If, after a proper plebiscite, the people of Kashmir said, ‘we do not want to be with India’; we are committed to accept it though it might pain us. We will not send an army against them. We will accept that, however hurt we might feel about it. We will change the constitution, if necessary

(Nehru’s statement in the Indian Parliament, June 26, 1952)

In reality Indians are rather committed to reject it

India will stand by her International commitments on the Kashmir issue and implement them at the appropriate time.

The repudiation of International commitments would lower India’s prestige abroad.
(Nehru’s speech as reported in Times of India, May 16, 1954)

These things were said by an Indian not by a Pakistani. I specially quoted Nehru so that Indians can’t reject it by any means. Making movies like “Lagay Raho Munnah Bhai” and preaching Gandhi geeri can’t hide facts. Why Indians don’t apply Gandhi Geeri for Kashmiris? Where is peace? There are many other speeches in which Nehru said such “lovely words” to fool the International community about Kashmir. The reality is far far away from these statements given by Nehru several decades ago.

If you ask me, I am totally agreed with what Nehru said:

Kashmir is not the property of India or Pakistan. It belongs to Kashmiri people

God bless Kashmir and their people and I hope and pray that they will soon get rid of the bloody politics of India and Pakistan who are being “Dallaal” [broker] of Kashmir and treating it as a “prostitute”. Let them decide their own fate. Are we Pakistanis and Indians are so low that we can’t give chance others to lead a sane life? Think once, just once, please!

Musharraf’s long trip to meet “like-minded” friends in MiddleEast,Malaysia and Indonesia because he[and his like minded] friends think that he’s the only one who is voice of Muslim Ummah who can solve all our issues and give us hope to lead a sane life, in short, He’s Neo of Muslim Ummah. Yeah he does sound like a neo when he speaks and like neo, he’s also willing to protect Zion[Read Israel] by convincing us that “we have to accept Israel”.

A 29-year-old convicted sex offender has spent four months at a US school after successfully posing as a 12-year-old boy, officials say.

They say Neil Rodreick shaved his body hair, covered his stubble with make-up and took a new name to attend Imagine Charter School in Phoenix, Arizona

Urdu as Official language

Friday, February 2nd, 2007

So someone told our govt officials that Urdu is our national language therefore it should be promoted by every mean. According to this source[urdu version], Durrani said:

Despite the fact that Urdu is our national language and it also reflects our national integrity, it is facing prejudices that need to be eliminated

further

He said that Urdu should be used during all national and international diplomatic ceremonies. He said that the NLA’s final recommendations regarding the issue of making Urdu an official language should also include a time frame for adopting Urdu as official language, adding that similar recommendations in the past could not be implemented because they contained no time limit.

Now this is funny, I mean how can you expect such people to speak pure urdu who feel insult to talk in Urdu and consider “uneducated” and “illetrate” to people who communicate in Urdu language.

Durrani suggested that foreign language terminologies being used in subjects of science and mathematics should be adopted in Urdu, as new terminologies could confuse students.

I would agree because once I got chance to read 9th class Chemistry book in Urdu and man I really got headache after reading the urdu translation of few scientific terms. How can you expect a 9th grade student to learn typical Persian or Arabic words.

According to Prof. Ata-ur-Rahman:

more Urdu software was needed to facilitate the adoption of Urdu as the official language.

I agree with him but the point is how can we have more urdu softwares while we don’t even have a standardized urdu keyboard and standardized Urdu fonts? Today if we have Nastaleeq fonts then they are not in good quality and if someone is providing quality fonts then they are windows specific. Pakdata guys has done a great job Windows specific so the only option is left to use Arabic Unicode fonts which don’t give a good result at all for instance BBC Urdu

Today If we see in computing than many countries are promoting IT in their local languages, forget China,Korea etc, the arab countries are doing great job to promote Arabic in Opensource world. Arab eyes is doing a great job to translate popular opensource softwares in Arabic. whether it’s FireFox or KDE, GNome or Ubuntu Linux, everything is being translated into Arabic. On the other hand, Iranians are also promoting Farsi in computing systems. Different Indian languages are also available for computing. When we are not able to do anything for Urdu then there is no chance to promote local languages in software development. I must congratulate young karachiite of SirSyed University of Engineering along with his friends who are sucessfully running Boriat and sincerly willing to promote Urdu content on Internet in unique way. Great work Shariq and I feel proud that you and me have studied in same university.

I don’t know what’s the main issue behind all this, i think it’s lack of intrest nothing else because when we are not even willing to speak Urdu then how can we imagine to promote it? Look not everything will be built by “Angrez”. Gora has no interest to write Urdu softwares for us, we local people have to promote it. On govt level, NADRA can do this task because they already have entire registration system in Urdu. Hope this decision will be taken seriously by govt and concerned people and they will promote Urdu and other local languages properly in Pakistan
