Old but still In
I was just googling for something and found out this old guardian news.I didnt used to blog at that time neither I had so much intrest in political and religous matters plus such action of that time is leading many ‘mishaps’ in our society and the region, therefore discussing this news is still very relevent.
Pakistan’s military ruler, General Pervez Musharraf, yesterday consolidated his grip on power by swiftly sacking two of his most senior generals, in an attempt to head off a growing revolt within the army against his pro-American policies.
The president demoted the head of Pakistan’s powerful ISI military intelligence agency, Lt General Mehmood Ahmed, and also pushed out his deputy chief of army staff, General Muzaffar Hussain Usmani. Both officers were regarded as hardline Islamists
Further:
“Gen Musharraf can’t afford to have any group within the army which has a different viewpoint,” Lt Gen Talat Masood, a close friend of the general’s and a former minister, said. “He now has a team which is totally aligned to him both intellectually and conceptually.”
And many people who are not ignorant are well aware of tasks of such team.Guardian further says.
The changes would prevent internal bickering, he added. “Gen Musharraf is very committed to his policy (of backing the United States). He wants the whole country to be committed as well,” he added.
yes like devaluation of currency, changing in syllabus according to US’s will and remove everything about ‘Jihad’,bringing vulgrity under the cover of ‘Enlightment Moderation’.Bringing useless and resultness hudood ordinance debate. One should remember that he is fan of Kamal Ataturk and Egypt’s Jamal Abdul Nasir.
Believe me or not but I really loathe these so called Religious parties group(MMA) who are as worst as any other so called secular group in my country but when I closely read the statments by Mush and His govt and then their implementtion,I am forced to believe that these(MMA) can’t be 100% wrong.
The Intresting part begins now!!
In an interview with the Guardian in May, Gen Musharraf expressed his frustration that the new US Republican administration had not sought to pursue closer ties with his regime.
“Every Pakistani wanted Bush to win. Every Pakistani would have voted Republican,” he said. Now, partly through an accident of geography, but also through his own adroitness, Gen Musharraf has made Pakistan America’s most important ally on the subcontinent.
hahahahaha Ally.
I know many of my readers who have been reading my many religion based posts for last few days would consider me a right wing fundamentalist since I talk against Vulgarity and secularism but Heck!If talking even a bit according to my religion makes me cynical, fundamentalist and right follower then I am pretty happy with that because I firmly believe in following Quranic verse:
They plot and plan, and Allah too plans; but the best of planners is Allah. (Quran 8:30)

Not sure if u want me to post here or in the other thread, I’ll do it here:
- It was promulgated by Zia-ul-Haq and rubber stamped by his parliament.
- Rape victims can be charged with fornication.
- That women can languish in jail for years till they’re cases make it through the appeals process.
- Pregnancy can count against them.
- That the punishment for bearing false witness against a “chaste” woman (rape victims too?) is 100 (or 80?) lashes but this isn’t a safeguard as according to some ulema the victim has to intiate court proceedings in that case.

To be honest, my Urdu isn’t very good.
Taqi Usmani was one of the ppl who helped draft the ordinance right? Although from what I understand he wants to reform it, although I don’t know the specifics of his idea of reforms, except that he considers it a problem of interpretation while other Islamists don’t see any issue at all. And others want the law modernised or repealed altogether.
1) How do u decide what part of the Ordninance is Hudood Allah and what is man made? For that matter who has the final authority to make and change the law?
2) The complaint about the use of “him”:

3) I haven’t seen the actual text of the bill but here is what it is said to try and accomplish.
http://eteraz.wordpress.com/pakistan-womens-protection-bill-cheat-sheet/
- four witnesses become a requirement for lodging a complaint.
- Zina becomes a bailable offence, so that the accused aren’t jailed unless they’re convicted.
- Rape gets shifted to the criminal code (since there is no specific Quranic punishment for rape).
- The age of consent for women is moved to 16.
There’s more at Eteraz’s link.
