Bryan made the night to remember

Monday, January 30th, 2006

Ok,finally i made it, my cousins arranged the ticket for me,thanks bros.

It was really a wonderful night for karachiites,Bryan Adams , who were performing very first time in karachi really gave a wonderful entertainment to us,Bryan was here for a charity concert to raise funds for Shahzad Roy`s zindagi trust and as Bryan told us,approx 20 schools will be established from the charity,awesome man.

Bryan Adams is one of my favourite singer and that is why i attended the first ever concert in my life since i dont like go in concerts.

there were approx 10,000+ guys in arena and well organized,all people loved it and yeah Bryan enjoyed as well.It is always amazing to listen him live,what was more amazing for me that i found NO difference at all between his live performance in Karachi and Japan,it was almost ditto,he sang 4 songs in a row,shows that guy still has lots of potential.

Organizers really did a wonderful job,amazing stage arrangments,truly professional and it was hard to believe that it all was happening in karachi.There was an awesome firework display at the end.There were stalls of Pizza Hut,Hot n Spicy but since we were late so preferred to have lunch in a resturant in our area and ejoyed spicy Brain Masla ,Chicken Tikka and Sekh Kebabs at Donisel.On the other hand,test match is going on between India and Pakistan and it was a thrilling start by Indians,hatrick by Irfan pathan in his very first over.There is a wonderful article Karachiites’ Sunday options: Bryan Adams or cricket ,read and enjoy,oh,i coudn’t take clear snaps of concert,however you may visit Karachi MetBlogs for pics and comments specially this post by Awab

Kamasutra confuses network security experts

Friday, January 27th, 2006

Hold on perverts!! this is not related with old indian ancient book about love techniques,its actually a new worm which spreads via email.

Nyxem-E aka Kama Sutra is a mass-mailing worm which attempts to disable security-related and file-sharing software and destroys files of certain types. When run on a Windows PC, the worm copies itself to shared network locations, and sends itself to e-mail addresses found on the target computer. Nyxem-E, according to F-Secure, is programmed to disable anti-virus and firewall software, and delete certain files including Office documents, on the third day of every month.

further,

The Kama Sutra worm arrives as an e-mail attachment, with different subject lines including “School girl fantasies gone bad,” “The Best Videoclip Ever,” “A Great Video,” “give me a kiss,” “Fwd: Photo,” “Fw: Sexy,” “You Must View This Videoclip!” “Miss Lebanon 2006,” etc

And India react

Friday, January 27th, 2006

As i mentioned in my last post , it didn’t take much time to have severe response of Indian govt and now Mr.Mulford,US Ambassador is regretting his statment and saying it was taken out of context.

Mr Mulford was summoned by India’s Foreign Secretary, Shyam Saran, on Thursday afternoon and told that his comments were “inappropriate and not conducive to building a strong partnership between the two democracies,” a foreign ministry statement said.

So far so good,I would really praise the Indian reaction,I am not being anti-Pakistan or pro-indian but its true that it all happened due to their strong economy and awesome foriegn policy and because of these factors US state department asks India to calm down by saying this

…Mr Mulford was voicing his “personal opinion”.

what if it happened with us?i know our govt couldn’t say anything,they didn’t have guts to say anything against recent US strike in Bajorh Agency-Pakistan,infact we were told that samething could happen again,infact US didnt bother to say say sorry to Pakistan govt.In an interview ,when Mr.aziz was asked about US apology,he said:

he replied in the negative, saying that he would discuss the matter when he meets top US leadership in Washington to arrive at some understanding.

But on other hand,out own Prime Minister giving interview to Businessweek.

But how do you feel when the U.S. bombs a Pakistani village?

You know our view. It’s a very regrettable incident. We cannot condone it. Innocent lives have been lost. At the same time we are very committed to fight terrorism, jointly with the U.S. and others. Because terrorism is no solution to any problem, and loss of innocent life is unfair. So we are committed to fighting terrorism. But there is a need for more coordination and more communication. The people of Pakistan are very angry.

yes sir!we pakisanis really know your “view” and we know that you and Mr.Mush could do anything to please US govt.But it is very funny sir that you judge ecnomic growth by hotel room capacities,you have really given us a laugh and yea to our neighbour too

So you feel things are much better than they were five years ago?

Definitely. I think most people now feel that. And one indicator is that you can’t find hotel rooms in Pakistan anymore!

India gets sandwitched

Thursday, January 26th, 2006

It seems that India has got sandwitched betwen Iran and US/Isreal,few months back India voted against Iran in security council,recent news is that US has warned India to vote against Iran at the IAEA’s board meeting on Feb 2,2006. I think its real tough time for India to deal with cowboy president of United States and it would be intresting what would India decide since US always belives in “The enemy of our enemy is not our friend”.

On other side,Indian media is preferring Iran over US,i also second this decision since its India’s decision to go for Iran not some outsider. Dr Arjun Makhijani ,president of Institute for Energy and Environment Research was interviewed by rediff and he strongly believes that India should not vote against Iran. The Hindu also saying something similar,lets see what happens in comming weeks.

Future of Palestine

Thursday, January 26th, 2006

it seems that future of Palestine is officially in hands of Hamas after their victory in elections which results resignation of Palestinian president Ahmad Qorie and his cabinet,israel govt clearly sad that they wouldn’t accept such govt which is anti-israel..anyways palestinians have selected Hamas for themselves rather for israel. I personally believe that they have right to establish a govt and try to sortout things with israel,hope for the best,may this change bring some positive change for people of palestine. Ann of The Media Line have comeup with intrestin details about current elections.Check these out.

Demo is available at http://www.geocities.com/kadynan/ajax-geo.html

Update:Custom Ajax based Contact Form

Saturday, January 14th, 2006

I discussed in details in my earlier post about implementation of the form on the website like geocities.com where you dont get serverside scripting access.

I have made few changes in it,validation have been applied in necessary field, for emailing validation,i have used SmartWebby.com`s Email Validation and its pretty awesome,instead javascript alert(),i have preferred to use div layers to display error messages.

in near future ,i would make it further better,and would be working on new project by using same technologies.

Comments and sugggestions are welcome,feel free to implement it without installaing ot on your websites,I know i have to put up a link for source down,give me some time:)

P.S: i am also looking for logo idea for my website adnansiddiqi.com ,i want my full name Adnan Siddiqi in form of some simple but good logo,so your ideas will be welcome:)

Customized Ajax based Contact Form for Blogger.com or any other site

Tuesday, January 10th, 2006

Blogger is very nice and powerful Blogging engine, the good part of it that its customizable, you just play with template and you can do anything you want, though I couldn’t discover it an year back when I got registered here and then moved to weblogs.com.pk.

One thing I missed in it was a typical Contact Form, one has to go to Profile of blogger to contact him and if one hasn’t enabled it, there is no chance other than to make a comment in any of his post, its not appropriate. I don’t know why blogger people didn’t give a way to send feedback/message to the author. Anyway, it made me to work on my own contact form; I didn’t want typical send form to email thingy, other issue was that I didn`t want typical Submit feature, i:e server round trip. I wanted a seamless server side solution to send me email via php or asp whatever scripting language. The other restriction was that I don’t have access to Blogger.com web server as well that I put my script file on machine and run it, the only choice was left was AJAX, I had tried it first time with J2EE in an a project at Cybernet where I work and developed Access Control Module for the mentioned system. Since I had time, got my own machine as well,so I worked on it and with help of God, it got implemented successfully.

It was not easy though, one of the draw back of AJAX approach that XmlHttp Object doesn’t support doesn’t support cross-domain request, you will experience Permission Denied error. After 2 days of online research, I found http://ajaxextended.com/ , this guy used Proxy approach for dealing external requests, his library is awesome and very simple too, it didn’t take more than 5 minutes to implement it(

The contact form I have developed is using php script engine, installed on my website, for emailing, I have used phpmailer class for sending mails via php and ajaxextended library for handling cross domain requests, the best of this library is that you don’t need to create separate instance of Xmlhttp for IE and FF(Mozilla based browsers), as many of programmers would have idea that IE used ActiveX control for XmlHttp request unlike FireFox.

This contact form is reusable in its current form, that is one can use it without any installation on his machine at all,by adding references of javascript file and a simple HTML form within a DIV tag, you may use same facility for your website/blog. Following things you will require to use this feature on your website/blog.

  1. CSS Style

Ok, this is not necessary, if you want to make your own styles you can change it, for sake of simplicity, I am mentioning everything right here:

Add following between <style type=”text/css”> </style>

<!–
.area {font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10px; }
.heading {
font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
font-size: 12px;
font-weight: bold;
color: #FF9900;
}
.labels {font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10px; color: #FFFFFF; }
–>
</style>

You are not bound to use same class names at all you can make new style and apply on form. Or if you want make your form css-less.

  1. JavaScript

Enter following between <head></head>

<script language=”javascript” src=”http://adnansiddiqi.com/xmlhttp.js” type=”text/javascript”>
</script>
<script language=”javascript” src=”http://adnansiddiqi.com/contacts.js” type=”text/javascript”>
</script>

  1. Html Form

You are not bound to use similar form for your site but yes, the form fields and Div ID MUST HAVE same name as mentioned in the code below:

<!– DIV for Contact Begins –>
<div id=”contacts” style=”position:absolute; width:500px;top:250px; left:140px; display:none;”>
<form name=”myform” method=”post” action=”">
<table width=”70%” border=”0″ cellpadding=”0″ cellspacing=”0″ bgcolor=”#333399″>
<tr>
<td colspan=2><span class=”heading”>Contact Form(BETA)</span></td>

<td> </td>
<td> </td>
<td> </td>
<td class=”labels”><div align=”right”><a href=”javascript:closeme();” title=”Close Window”><font color=white>Close</font></a></div></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td colspan=”6″ class=”labels”><div id=”message” align=”center” style=”display:none “>Please Wait … </div></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td width=”25%”><span class=”labels”>Your Name </span></td>
<td width=”75″ colspan=”5″ valign=”top” align=”left”><input name=”your_name” type=”text” id=”your_name” size=”30″></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td><span class=”labels”>Email</span></td>
<td colspan=”5″ valign=”top” align=”left”><input name=”your_email” type=”text” id=”your_email” size=”30″></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td><span class=”labels”>Subject</span></td>
<td colspan=”5″ valign=”top” align=”left”><input name=”subject” type=”text” id=”subject” size=”30″></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td valign=”top”><span class=”labels”>What do you wanna say? </span></td>
<td colspan=”5″ valign=”top” align=”left”><span class=”area”>
<textarea name=”say” rows=”5″ id=”say”></textarea>
</span></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td> </td>
<td colspan=”5″ valign=”top” align=”left”>
<input type=”Button” name=”S” value=”Send” onClick=”sendMe(’<your email>’);”>
<input type=”Reset” name=”Submit” value=”Start Over”></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td colspan=”6″> </td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td colspan=”6″><div align=”center” class=”style1″>Developed By </div></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td colspan=”6″><div align=”center” class=”style1″><a href=”http://adnansiddiqi.com” class=”style3″>Adnan Siddiqi </a></div></td>
</tr>
</table>
</form>
</div>
<!– DIV for Contact Ends –>

In order to make it compatible with your side and email address, enter your Email address where you wish to receive user feedbacks, for this purpose you need to make changes in sendMe() function:

onClick=”sendMe(’<your email>’);

That’s it! You can run form on your site too.

Note: Since it’s in beta stage, I have kept it open for others means anyone could use it on his/her website. I have no plan to offer my side for Emailing facility, yes code is free of cost, and anyone could grab it, customize it and use it, but don’t forget to give credits to those who made it possible that is.

  1. AjaxExtended.com
  2. PhpMailer
  3. To me (Adnan Siddiqi)

Last but not least, don’t use it for spamming; I am logging IP addresses for every visitor who submits the form.

So please give me suggestions, about bugs, I will fix it up, also about that should I host server side code for others or not, right now I am kinda unsecure about it. I will upload the code soon on my website and one would be able to download it free of cost.

For Demo, goto main page and click on Contact Me link,lots of things need to be done,like Validation of form etc.
